Subscription rates and payment options for the Society for Education and Training (SET) are listed below. SET’s membership year runs from 1 April to 31 March.

SET is offering members joining after 1 October a discounted rate of a third of usual prices. Please note that the discounted rates shown cannot be used in conjunction with the concessionary rates also offered by SET.

Free membership offer 

SET is offering free membership to students starting their ITE courses from September 2017. As a teacher educator, we know you want to be able to provide your students with the right support.

You will be reminded 10 days before payment is taken and have the right to cancel as per our Terms and Conditions.

Tax relief on your membership fee 

SET is recognised by HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) as a professional body, with membership subscriptions deemed directly relevant to employment. This means that SET members are eligible for tax relief. SET appears on the list of approved professional organisations and learned societies as 'Education and Training Society'.

In order to make membership fees more manageable for you, and in response to member feedback, we have introduced monthly direct debits to spread out the cost of membership. There is also an annual direct debit option for those who want to pay in one transaction. 

If you have set up a Direct Debit with SET, your subscription fees for 2017-2018 onwards will be collected automatically.  There is no need to set up a new one each year - we will continue taking subscription payments unless you tell us that you wish to resign from membership.  Direct Debit payments will be collected starting on or around 1 April 2017 and instalments will continue on or around the first of each month to 1 March 2018. Unless you tell us otherwise, you are committing again to the same declarations as the year before.

We will remind you that your subscription is due for renewal and keep you informed if your subscription payment changes. Please do contact us if there is a change to your bank details.

If your circumstances have changed and you are eligible to pay a concession rate then please let us know as soon as possible.

Concessionary rates

Concessionary rates are available to members who have retired from the profession, are on a low income, are unemployed at the time of renewing their membership or are undertaking a full-time or part-time pre-service teaching qualification.

Payment options and administration fees

We work hard to keep the membership fee as low as possible. However, with some core costs continuing to increase, such as postage and payment processing, we need to charge a small administrative fee, on some transactions.

SET does not benefit from this but it does enable us to continue to provide the widest range of relevant benefits to members.

Where an employer is able to support the cost of membership, SET anticipates that this will be through the full or part-reimbursement of professional expenses or a professional subscription loan scheme.
