FE Associates (FEA)
is the UK's most progressive further education and skills specialist, dedicated to offering expert insight, collaboration and guidance from an unrivalled network of sector-leading experts. Established in 2005, FE Associates offers over 13 years of specialist sector intelligence, spreading the entire breadth of further education and skills, combined with over 30 years of specialist recruitment experience.

Our unique approach to offering high quality and cost-effective solutions through the highly skilled experts we deploy sees us rolling our sleeves up and working alongside governors, leaders and managers to make change and improvement happen in the most effective way. We are practitioners who are deeply embedded in the further education and skills sector and are able to support you as your trusted advisors.

FEA’s registered training division “Teaching Matters” has recently launched its innovative and ambitious national training programme for teachers and teaching assistants in FE and Skills. Building on its successful track record in training managers across the sector, the national teacher training programme and Level 3 teaching assistant standard will bring unrivalled opportunities for individuals to become part of a wide community of practitioners.

At the heart of the teacher training programme is the commitment to developing people into dual professionals; staff who are experts in their vocation, working to develop knowledge and skills that make them highly effective teachers and trainers. The programme is particularly aimed at those relatively new to FE and Skills who wish to advance their teaching credentials and qualifications.

Teaching assistants play an important role in education encompassing special education needs and emotional vulnerabilities and to support the class teacher to enhance student learning either in groups or individually, ensuring learners understand the work set, know their learning objectives and stay on task in order to make progress.

"As an organisation we are keen to learn from the sector and have the opportunity to meet peers on a more informal basis. We are looking forward to the variety of virtual interaction and speakers at #SETConf20." - Donna Clifford, FEA

When asked about what advice they would give to colleagues if they could have seen ahead to 2020:

"Purchase a decent office chair for your home! But in all seriousness, I think I would encourage the team to be more open about how they were feeling. Lockdown was a really tough period for many of us, especially for those living alone. We often get wrapped up with day-to-day flow of work, and don’t make enough time to take five minutes and talk to our colleagues, friends and family. In an office environment this occurs throughout a day. But when working from home, you need to schedule that time."
