You have to be a SET member to register for professional formation, and to keep your QTLS current and up-to-date once you have been awarded with the status.
The QTLS registration window is open from 3 April 2018 and closes on 31 May 2018.
Please note that by registering for QTLS you are accepting the above terms and conditions.
The Society for Education and Training (SET) administers both Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills (QTLS) status and Advanced Teacher Status (ATS) on behalf of the Education and Training Foundation (ETF).
Stages of professional formation
Stage 1 - initial registration
Check the eligibility information for QTLS.
If you are a recently qualified teacher, remember that you need to have received your initial teacher education certificate before registering.
Complete the relevant information and you will also be asked to pay your first instalment of £110. This indicates to SET that you wish to register to apply for professional formation and allows us to prepare the appropriate resources to review and moderate your application.
Stage 2 - complete your online workbook
After you have paid your deposit, you will be able to access your online workbook in My QTLS and embark upon the application process by completing your narrative pages and adding supportive evidence. You need to make sure that you share your application with SET by the relevant deadline for your application period (see the table below).
It is expected that you complete and submit your workbook in support of your application for Professional Formation or the Recognition Route within one year.
For any workbooks not completed within one year, it will be a requirement that members start their applications again. This is to ensure that evidence in the workbook is current, that is within 12 months from the date of registration.
It is important that you check all supporting evidence and certificates are added to your workbook before you share your application with SET as these cannot be added once you have shared it. Please refer to and use the Professional Formation checklist.
Stage 3 - conferral of QTLS by SET
To complete your application you need to follow these steps:
1. Complete your evidence in your online workbook ensuring all supporting evidence and certificates are included.
2. Share with your supporter
3. Send your completed online workbook to SET.
When you have shared your online workbook with SET, you will receive an email acknowledging its receipt. If you do not receive this email, please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org, as it may be that your workbook has not been received.
You do not have to wait until the deadline to share your online workbook which can be sent at any time. However please be aware that your application will not be reviewed until the deadline has passed.
Once received, your completed application will be reviewed and moderated. If successful, you will achieve Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills (QTLS). You can print your certificate through My QTLS at your own convenience. You will also receive a hard copy of your certificate in due course.
After you receive your confirmation email at the end of the process, you can read your feedback in your online workbook by logging in to My QTLS and clicking the "view feedback" button in the status bar.
