Reflections on the FE research landscape

From Research Meets to Research Colleges – Jo Fletcher-Saxon, Assistant Principal at Ashton Sixth Form College, and Sam Jones, an Advanced Practitioner at Bedford College Group, come together at the SET Conference 2020 to talk about the future of the FE research landscape.

An ideal picture of research in post-16 education and training in the future

Sam: “There is research on education, and research in education. When looking at research on FE, it is people in universities and think tanks looking at the sector from the outside. I am looking at the research that goes on in the sector. I’d love to see individual colleges, sixth-form and training providers across the sector making use of research for decision-making purposes and developing their research capacity.

“There is the argument that ‘big is best’ but I’m a fan of the idea that ‘small is beautiful’, although there’s obviously a value for the larger pieces of work. You can start building an evidence base anywhere.”
