Our membership grades

Our membership grades reflect your career stage and qualifications held, providing clear progression as your career grows. Check the eligibility criteria below to determine which grade is most appropriate for you.

Fellow (FSET)

Join as a Fellow or upgrade your membership if you:

- Hold a Level 5 teaching qualification, plus a masters or doctorate in education or the subject you teach, and have a minimum of 5 years teaching/training experience

- Have ATS status, or an ETF Technical Teaching Fellowship

Become a Fellow from only £8.00 a month.

About Fellowship

Member (MSET)

Join as a Member if you hold a level 5 teaching qualification or higher such as a:

- Diploma in Education and Training (DET)

- Certificate in Education (CertEd)

- Diploma in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector (DTTLS)

- Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE)  

Become a member from only £6.42 a month  

Students

Join as a student if you are undertaking an initial teacher training education qualification to get FREE membership for the duration of your studies.

If you are studying for Level 3 to 5 or a PGCE from a recognised ITE provider you can apply for FREE membership.

Your SET Student membership is free for the duration of your studies. Once you have completed your studies you can easily upgrade to become a full member.

Associate (ASET)

Join as an Associate if you are a practitioner or assessor and hold a minimum of:

- Level 3 certificate in teaching (e.g. Level 3 Award in Education and Training, AET) or equivalent

Or

- Hold a Level 3 Assessor award

Become an Associate from only £6.42 a month.

Affiliate

Join as an Affiliate if you are new to the profession or a support worker, such as:

- Level 3/4 award (Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector, PTLLS)

- City and Guilds Certificate or Diploma in Delivering Learning.

We also welcome:

- Trainee teachers and others working towards post-14 education and training qualifications

- Those in learning support roles

Our membership fees

Our membership year runs from 1 April to 31 March. You can join SET at any time and the annual membership fees (see below) will automatically be pro-rated. We also offer a reduced rate of membership if you are working but earning less than £16,500 per annum.

We offer two ways to pay – by credit/debit card or Direct Debit. There are three key reasons to set up a Direct Debit 1) it’s easy to manage and will ensure continuous access to all benefits of membership and 2) You can choose how you pay – annually or monthly and 3) you’ll save money on the annual cost of membership, compared to the card payment option.

Membership Frequently asked questions

Yes, you will receive the same excellent benefits regardless of your level of membership.

Feedback from members, alongside our ongoing goal to be more environmentally sustainable, means we no longer issue plastic membership cards. You will be sent a membership certificate when you join or renew, valid for that membership year. This can be printed or sent electronically to colleagues or employers to prove your valid membership of SET.

You may be having trouble setting up as a new member if you were previously a member or have tried to join before and are using the same email address. You can use this email address to log in to your account and renew your membership. If you’ve forgotten your password you can easily reset it.
