After completing DTLLS, I wanted to continue my professional development. I liked the way QTLS is structured, how you are encouraged to constantly reflect on your practice and what impact that has on the learner. With an in-house mentor, you can improve the learner experience across the company.
I have secured a new role, so I would have to say there has been a positive impact, but more than that it has made me look more closely at what I do every day.
By working closely with my mentor, I have put together a variety of interventions for colleagues that enable them to develop their learners. For example, one of my development activities was to incorporate technology better – I designed and delivered a series of modules to show colleagues how to use WebEx Training Centre effectively.
More people are more confident when being called upon to deliver WebEx sessions, which is the way the industry is moving. Learners have a much better learning experience.
I have been able to put into practice things that I have learnt. Given that I am due to start a new role, I am determined to bring the knowledge and experience I have gained to improve the quality of our curriculum offering to ensure all learners have a better learning experience.
Go for it – you won’t regret it! SET membership opens the doors to so many things, not just QTLS, but up-to-date research, as well as creating an education community.
QTLS is the badge of professionalism for post-14 education and training. It’s aimed at helping you advance your career and to demonstrate your expertise and experience to your colleagues, employers and learners.
