Advanced Teacher Status (ATS) is the tried and tested route to professionalising your workforce. ATS will demonstrate that as an employer you are committed to raising standards by employing highly skilled teachers who demonstrate mastery in teaching.

Ofsted Education Inspection Framework sets out the importance of professional workforce development. It clearly states the factors which characterise effective CPD programmes:
Longer programmes tend to be more effective than short-term interventions, and most effective CPD has to last at least two terms to have an impact.
Effective CPD requires follow-up, practice and support.
CPD needs to be relevant to the everyday work of teachers for it to have impact.
CPD can allow teachers to engage in peer learning and collaboration.
Supporting your staff to achieve professional status
ATS has been developed specifically for excellence within a Further Education setting. Employing ATS holders offers a range of significant benefits for employers that will enable you to:
improve learning outcomes
improve standards efficiently and cost effectively with a programme which encourages collaborative development of staff
raise your organisation's profile to partners and learners by investing in your staff
offer new career progression routes for your advanced teaching staff to nurture and train talent in your organisation
recruit the best teachers and promote your credentials as an employer investing in staff development
promote a culture of working collaboratively to improve teaching standards amongst peers.
Our link with the Chartered College of Teaching
ATS, introduced in 2017, is specifically designed for Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills (QTLS) status holders operating at an advanced practitioner level. We have worked closely with the
Chartered College of Teaching to strengthen the parity of professional status between those teaching and training across all educational contexts. This means those awarded Advanced Teacher Status officially hold Chartered Teacher Status (CTeach) too. What ATS holders say:
“ATS has given me a badge of professionalism, which can act as a platform to support the next generation of aspiring teachers and colleagues I work alongside."
Dave Shurmer, sports and leisure trainer and assessor. “I am recognised as an advanced practitioner in education locally and nationally. I now engage with colleagues, managers and senior leaders in developing and improving teaching, learning and assessment."
Joyce Chen, lecturer in teacher education. “I believe that ATS offers important support for the further professionalisation of the workforce in FE."
Gail Lydon, regional specialist lead for English and maths.
