Melanie Lanser, Director of Teaching, Learning and Academic Research at Derby College, will share the college’s trial of problem-based learning pedagogy in technical education and functional skills.
The project was part of the Outstanding Teaching, Learning and Assessment (OTLA) National Technical Programme. It aimed to support learners to develop the higher-level skills, knowledge and behaviours that they will require in employment through an innovative approach to curriculum delivery.
Melanie will share the evidence drawn on to support the problem-based learning approach, how Derby College worked with a range of employers to develop scenarios for use in the classroom and what they have learned about implementing this approach.
