Over the last few months, the Society for Education and Training (SET), part of the Education and Training Foundation (ETF), has been in discussions with the Teaching Regulation Agency (TRA) (an executive agency of the Department for Education (DfE)) regarding Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills (QTLS) status.
We are delighted to announce that from September 2024 all SET members awarded with QTLS status, who continue to maintain this status through SET membership, will also be issued with a Teacher Reference Number and will appear on both SET’s professional status register and the DfE’s central record of qualified teachers.
“This is a significant step forward in recognition of the professional status of those working in the Further Education (FE) and Skills sector”, said Dr. Vikki Smith, Executive Director at ETF. “We are delighted that SET’s QTLS holders will now have this recognition of their professional achievements. Members who currently hold QTLS status have been contacted by SET with information on how their entry onto the central record of qualified teachers will be managed”.
QTLS is a professional status, which is gained after a six-month period of professional formation. More than 27,000 FE and Skills practitioners have been awarded QTLS since it was first introduced in 2007. The current cohort of 500+ members, are the 15th to be considered for QTLS. The application window for the January 2025 cohort will open on August 12th. To find out more about the programme and the achievements of our members, please visit the QTLS pages on the SET website.
