Steps to gaining Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills (QTLS) Status

1. Suitability to apply tool

Before you consider applying for Professional Formation you should read through the full eligibility criteria for the programme. Once you have done this you must engage with our suitability to apply tool to progress. If you pass the suitability to apply tool, and the registration window is open you will be directed to the application page.

2. Registration (you are here)

During the registration process, you will be asked to make the following pledges:

• Eligibility criteria
• Terms and conditions
• Code of practice

You will then be asked to read and accept the privacy policy.

Finally, you will be asked to pay the £50 application fee. You can either pay via card or choose to invoice your employer. Once you have paid your application fee the application portfolio will be made available. Please note that delayed payment from your employer will delay access to the application portfolio.

3. SET Dashboard

Once payment has been received, you will gain access to the application portfolio. This can be accessed via the new “PF APP” button on the top ribbon of your SET dashboard.

4. Professional Formation Application 

You will then be directed to a portfolio platform to complete your Professional Formation application. You will have until 5pm on 30 November to submit the application, having completed all sections of the application and shared it with your supporter to endorse it with a supporting statement.

5. Professional Formation

If your application is successful, you will be invited to start Professional Formation in January. During the 6 month programme, you will be asked to complete all of the activities in the portfolio, before submitting it to the Professional Formation team for review.

6. QTLS

If submission of your Professional Formation portfolio is successful, you will be awarded with QTLS status.
