** From 1 September 2024, the eligibility criteria for QTLS will change with respect to teaching qualifications held. To align with the supersession of the Diploma in Education & Teaching (DET) by the Diploma in Teaching (DIT).
For QTLS applications from 1 September 2024 onwards, any of the pre-existing/legacy FE ITE qualifications formerly accepted, will only be accepted if started before 1 September 2024.
The QTLS eligibility for teaching qualifications started, or awarded, before the 1 September 2024 remains unchanged.
All qualifications accepted in previous application cycles remain in place if you started the qualification or were awarded it before 1 September 2024.
Changes relating to the introduction of the Diploma in Teaching (DIT) framework are only applicable to those applicants who started their teaching qualification after the 1 September 2024 (please see the guidance opposite).

From April 2024, the QTLS eligibility criteria changed with respect to teaching qualifications held.
All teaching qualifications started after the 1 September 2024 must be aligned with the Diploma in Teaching (DiT) framework. This change was in line with national removal of the Diploma in Education & Teaching (DET). Click here for a summary.
Your qualification may not be called the Diploma in Teaching (DiT). The qualification must be aligned to the DiT framework and show that the occupational standards have been met. If studied at level 5, it must have a value of 120 credits; if studied at levels 6 or 7, it must have 60 credits at levels 6 or 7 and include evidence that the teaching practice elements have been completed.
If you have any questions or concerns regarding the teaching qualification you are studying, or have achieved, you should initially contact your awarding organisation/institution for confirmation that it follows the DIT framework. Please note that SET is unable to confirm whether your qualification has been aligned to the DIT. A link to eligible qualifications can be found below.

You must have been awarded and certificated for a Teacher Education qualification that is equivalent to Diploma in Education and Training (DET) before registering for Professional Formation leading to QTLS or Advanced Teacher Status (ATS).
QTLS and ATS participants will need a minimum Level 5 qualification with a credit value of 120 that includes a practical teaching component requiring the logging of 100 hours of teaching and eight observations of your teaching.
If you have any queries about whether your qualification would be acceptable for you to register for QTLS or ATS, please contact membership@etfoundation.co.uk with a scanned copy/photograph of your certificate and accompanying transcript.
If your teaching qualification was awarded outside the UK, the UK ENIC statement of comparability is required, in addition to the qualification certificate, transcript and certified translation, which must confirm that your qualification is equivalent to a level 5+ and that it qualifies the holder to teach in the country the qualification was awarded. Please note SET does not cover any costs relating to ENIC's.
