New bite-size training to support blended and remote learning

A new range of 14 bite-size training modules has been launched on the Enhance Digital Teaching Platform to help teachers and trainers use educational technology (EdTech) to support their learners working either wholly or partly at home.

The new modules have been funded by the Department for Education (DfE) to ensure the Education and Training Foundation (ETF) can continue to respond to the needs of the FE and Training sector during the current pandemic.

Eight of the new modules are focused on ‘Managing online and blended learning’ covering topics such as:

  • Managing online learners and learning activity: learning groups
  • Quality assuring the online learning experience
  • Managing learning online: guidance & interaction
  • Setting up and preparation for an online programme.

A further six modules are focused on creating content covering ‘Animation and the moving image’ and ‘Media, tools and methods’ with topics such as:

  • Creating video content
  • Teaching and learning with virtual reality
  • Simulation for learning
  • Creating social media content.

The aim of the modules is to provide easy-to-access, practically oriented training for practitioners on key topics relevant to current needs. The modules align to the Digital Teaching Professional Framework, the ETF’s national EdTech competency framework, across three stages of competency – Exploring (starter), Adopting (intermediate) and Leading (advanced). Practitioners completing modules can gain digital EdTech badges for different categories of pedagogy and progress from Exploring to Leading in their practice.

Vikki Liogier, National Head of EdTech and Digital Skills, said: “It is clear that practitioners have been turning to the Enhance Digital Teaching Platform for resources and training during this enforced period of remote working, and we made it a priority to expand our support. We also know that for many teachers and trainers this has opened a door to exploring the potential of EdTech to transform their practice, so we want to ensure there is training available mapped across the whole of the Digital Teaching Professional Framework, covering all aspects of teaching and learning.”
