QTLS results day: celebrating success

The Education and Training Foundation (ETF) and Society for Education and Training (SET) extend their warmest congratulations to over 470 SET members who are celebrating a significant career milestone as they are awarded Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills (QTLS) status. Those who received their results yesterday (6 August) began the QTLS programme in January 2024.

QTLS – conferred by ETF’s professional membership body, SET – is a recognised professional status awarded to individuals in the Further Education (FE) and Skills sector who have successfully completed a six-month period of professional formation based on ETF’s Professional Standards for Teachers and Trainers. All SET members awarded with QTLS status, who continue to maintain this status through SET membership, are also issued with a Teacher Reference Number and will appear on both SET’s professional status register and, from autumn 2024, the Department for Education’s central record of qualified teachers.

ETF’s CEO, Dr Katerina Kolyva, said: “Achieving QTLS is a testament to the skills and knowledge of our members who are committed to making a positive impact on the learning experiences and outcomes of their students. On behalf of ETF, I would like to extend my heartfelt congratulations to all individuals who have successfully achieved QTLS status this year. Your commitment to your own continuous professional development and to raising the standards of teaching and learning in the FE and Skills sector is truly commendable. Achieving QTLS status enhances your professional standing while also having a positive impact on your organisation and on your learners."

QTLS status holder Ellie Gills, Teacher of Health and Social Care at Thomas Rotherham College, has previously said about her own QTLS experience: “Undertaking QTLS has made me realise that I can be a confident and professional practitioner. Before achieving QTLS status I did not believe in myself, but I now undertake regular CPD and constantly want to improve my teaching practice for myself and my students”.

The application window for the next cohort, which gets underway in January 2025, is open from 12 August to 24 October 2024.
